Pizza Queen

Pizza Queen

While out and about in Downtown Providence R.I. i stopped for a couple of slices of pizza at a small place called Pizza Queen. It was very tasty and it was nice to be able to get a couple of slices instead of ordering a whole pizza.

Pizza (pronounced /?pi?ts?/ ( listen); Italian: [?pit.tsa]), in the US often called pizza pie, is an oven-baked, flat, disc-shaped bread typically topped with a tomato sauce, cheese (usually mozzarella) and various toppings depending on the culture. Since the original pizza, several other types of pizzas have evolved.

Originating in Neapolitan cuisine, the dish has become popular in many different parts of the world.

An establishment that primarily makes and sells pizzas is called a "pizzeria". The phrases "pizza parlor", "pizza place", "pizza house" and "pizza shop" are used in the United States. The term pizza pie is dialectal, and pie is used for simplicity in some contexts, such as among pizzeria staff.

The Ancient Greeks covered their bread with oils, herbs and cheese. The Romans developed placenta, a sheet of flour topped with cheese and honey and flavored with bay leaves. Modern pizza originated in Italy as the Neapolitan pie with tomato. In 1889 cheese was added.

King Ferdinand I (1751–1825) is said to have disguised himself as a commoner and, in clandestine fashion, visited a poor neighborhood in Naples. One story has it that he wanted to sink his teeth into a food that the queen had banned from the royal court—pizza.

In 1889, during a visit in Naples, Queen Margherita of Savoy was served a pizza resembling the colors of the Italian flag, red (tomato), white (mozzarella) and green (basil). This kind of pizza has been named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita.

Westfield signs Kurt Geiger and Nine West

Westfield signs Kurt Geiger and Nine West

The design-led pair will open a dual-fascia store as part of Westfield’s repositioning of the Friary shopping centre in Guildford, Surrey.

The 3,000 sq ft store will be located within the newly configured mall, which is jointly owned by Westfield and Hermes Real Estate Investment Managers Limited.

Earlier this year, fashion retailers Hollister, River Island and Republic all signed for new stores at the Friary shopping centre.

According to a report by Estates Gazette, the repositioning project also includes the creation of a dining area, glazed entrances, more contemporary interior finishes and enhanced lighting levels.

Sally McClymont, retail director at Kurt Geiger, said: "We are very excited about the store and the new market it will open up for us. Guildford is a great location with a large catchment comprising a demographic that is consistent with the Kurt Geiger/Nine West shopper profile."

The move comes just a week after both Kurt Geiger and Nine West were also confirmed at London's prestiguous Whiteley's shopping centre, W2.
